A while ago, I went to visit the beautiful city of Lisbon in Portugal. In one of those evenings, I went to have supper at a famous restaurant known for its fado.
The following images are from that evening and they were shot on a Leica M3 with a Voigtlander 50mm F1.5 Nokton II MC lens and Kodak Tri-X 400 pushed 2 stops.
The negatives were scanned with a Sony A7iii coupled with a Sigma 105mm macro lens and the Valoi Easy35 scanning kit. The digital negatives were later developed with Lightroom and the excellent Negative Lab Pro plugin. The only thing that were done in each processed image in Lightroom was to add a bit of clarity.
Shooting with film is a beautiful process because film is inherently imperfect. That imperfection is what gives film life, beauty and timelessness, unlike shooting with a digital camera for which the image tends to be a bit too clinical on the eye.
Kodak Tri-X (35mm format) is one of my favorite 35mm film emulsions because it's so versatile when it comes to using it in less favorable conditions.
